Haiti Trip
Monday, June 23, through Wednesday, June 25, Rev. Ben Brockman, Jr. Warden Stephanie Campbell and Church School Director Pam Pellegrini visited Haiti to strengthen our ties with the people there, and specifically with Holy Trinity School in the capital city of Port-au-Prince. Read Rev. Ben's first impressions here--and watch for more accounts in the weeks to come.

Trinity in Motion: Save the date — Saturday, September 20, 2008
Trinity in Motion is a participatory fellowship event to raise funds to support the Holy Trinity School in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. The larger mission of this event is to unite together as a community to respond to human need; to demonstrate solidarity with a large and largely destitute Episcopal community; and to raise awareness of the inspiring work being performed at the Holy Trinity School.

Please join the blessed trinity of St. Timothy’s Church, Trinity Church of Southport and St. Paul’s Church as we walk together on September 20th, 2008 to honor and support our fellow Episcopalians in Haiti. 100% of all proceeds will go directly to Holy Trinity School.

Haiti is the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere. 65% of the population is illiterate; more than half of the children do not go to school. It costs about $500 US to educate a child at Holy Trinity School each year. The meal a child receives there may be their only meal all day.

The day will begin with an 8-mile walk starting at St. Timothy’s, through Greenfield Hill to Trinity Church and Southport Harbor, then on to St. Paul’s. A 3-mile route will also be available. Aid stations along the way will include beverages, snacks and sanitary facilities. The walk will culminate in a Celebration of Haitian Culture featuring music, art and crafts; refreshments will be provided.

Go to the Trinity in Motion web site to learn more and register for the event.
Or pick up a brochure at church and mail in your registration.

Sunday, July 20: Trinity in Motion Registration Event
Plan to be at St. Paul’s after the 10:00 service on Sunday, July 20 to register for the walk, groove to the sounds of Haitian music, and there will also be a few Haitian embroidered shirts for sale. See you then!

"Back-to-school sales" for Covenant to Care
The back- to-school sales have started. We have 100 backpacks to fill. We have some supplies already for 50 of the backpacks and thanks to Miss Pam and the Sunday school classes those supplies are ready to be placed in the bags. We need additional supplies for the rest of the bags as well as paper, folders and binders. Donations of these items would be greatly appreciated. Monetary donations would be very helpful as we would be able to scoop up any great clearance deals when we find them. That’s how we purchased this years backpacks for $3 each at the end of the sales last year.  Thank you.

Church to Go
Please look for our latest edition of “Church to Go” - entitled “Summertime” - in the gathering area. How can we meet our own spiritual needs, and the needs of others, as our lives quiet down a bit during summer? Many of us are juggling jobs and child care, while frantically seeking time together. Pick up a copy and take a deep breath. What is some of the “stuff” that is wasting our time together? Maybe we can fix simpler meals, take a picnic or just sit and spend time together under the stars. God is waiting - are you there for him?

Church on the Beach: June 8 - August 10, 8:30 am
Starting June 8th, beach services will again be held at Jennings Beach, except on Sunday, June 22nd, when the Fairfield Fire Dept. has its annual marathon. Everyone is welcome at this very relaxing and informal worship service. In case of rain, please join us for the 8:00 or 10:00 am service at the church, which will also continue throughout the summer. Food Pantry donations will be accepted at the Beach service.

American Red Cross
The American Red Cross is asking for blood donors during the summer months in an effort to maintain our state at an adequate blood supply. The need for blood is constant, as they must collect 650 units of blood each and every day in Connecticut. During the summer months they do not often collect this amount. Please help—contact Matt White at whitemaa@usa.redcross.org for further information.

New Habitat Dates Announced
St. Paul’s will once again be partnering with Habitat for Humanity, every first Saturday beginning June 7, through November 1. Sign up now for any Saturday, or all of them! All skill levels are invited—what’s required most is a desire to work hard and have fun doing it. Work days begin at 8:00 and end at 4:00. Please contact Rich Hagedus (576-6528) or Phil Sidebottom (255-6799). Check out the pictures from our build days in October 2007 and from our seven-year partnership with Episcopal Bridgebulders. New Face, New Voice
We’d like to introduce our new publication, the E*pistle, an electronic newsletter spotlighting the most current upcoming parish events. Quick to access from your own inbox, you’ll always know what’s happening. Our first issue was emailed last week to parishioners who had a current email address on file. If you did not receive it and would like to try it just click here. Your information will be kept private and not shared with anyone. Of course you may unsubscribe at any time.
While there you will have an opportunity to subscribe to a choice of publications. Our current offerings are:

  • E*pistle – news on upcoming parish events from the Comminications Committee
  • A Letter from the Rector – an inspirational spiritual message from our Rector, Ben Brockman
  • Church School News – for children, parents and teachers—from our Church School Director, Pam Pellegrini
  • Music & Choir News – from our Organist and Director of Music, John Abdenour

Our print edition Epistle will continue to give you program news and photos. The Sunday Bulletin will also continue with service notes, calendar and news every Sunday.

We hope you’ll use our electronic publications to be informed, be inspired and stay connected during the week.

Volunteer Drivers Wanted
Fair Share Table, an organization that picks up day-old bread, cakes and sandwiches and delivers them to soup kitchens in Bridgeport and Norwalk is asking for volunteer drivers. Both men and women are asked to help for two hours, one day a week. Please contact Bob Burian at 259-8735 or rwburian@optonline.net. Our parishioner, Kim Rumford is looking for a partner to alternate Friday distributions with him. His email address is rumford_k_@sbcglobal.net. Thank you.

Moveable Feast
We are trying to restock our Moveable Feast supply of food, so we are asking parishioners who would like to help, to bring in cooked food of any kind, marked with the contents and date. We have designated a Moveable Feast shelf in the freezer near the phone in the kitchen. The food is given out to parishioners for various needs. Many thanks for your donations.

Covenant to Care
Don't forget Covenant to Care during the summer
There is always a need of baby items, formula, diapers, food, etc.  Checks, supermarket gift cards, bus tokens and monetary donations, made out to St. Paul's with "Covenant to Care" on the memo line, are greatly appreciated.

We do ask that all clothes, baby items, etc. be in good condition, no stains or broken pieces.  Please remember to give only what you or your family would wear, or use, to those who are less fortunate. Thank you.
