Scholarships Available
St. Paul’s is now sponsoring 3 academic scholarships.  The Dorothy Kish St. Paul’s Scholarhsips are for students in financial need or hardship entering or trying to continue a secondary education.  Students entering trade schools are also eligible.  The scholarships are designed to support students in the greater Bridgeport area who are involved in the Episcopal church, community or Music and Arts programs.
This new program is through Outreach to expand our commitment to bettering the lives of those locally.

Eligibility Requirements

• Applicant must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Legal Resident
• Scholarship is available to any high school graduate or GED recipient from Bridgeport, Stratford or Fairfield, who is actively involved with the Episcopal Church, involved in Arts and/or Music programs, with priority given to applicants from Bridgeport. 
• Applicants must submit a 500 word autobiographical essay about a volunteer or community experience; or about overcoming adversity; or about how this scholarship will support your plans for study and why you want to further your education.
 • Applicant must submit 2 letters of recommendation: 1 letter from an academic program and 1 letter from clergy or community-based organization. 
• Applicant must be enrolled full time or part-time in the fall 2008 and the spring 2009 semester.
• Recipient of this award must attend an approved accredited two- or four-year U.S. college or university or approved technical/vocational school.
• Applicant must provide evidence of demonstrated financial need via the applicant’s and their parent’s (if applicable) 2007 Income Tax return with Schedule A, B, & D plus their W2’s.  Please remove all Social Security numbers from these forms for the common concern for privacy.  If you have submitted the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) please submit a copy.  Please make sure that all forms are complete and up-to-date.  Any incomplete forms may be returned and may delay application processing.
• Applicant must provide information regarding any other funds received/applied for financial aid.
• Applicant providing any information or record or making any statement that is false or misleading will be disqualified.
• Post-marked deadline for application submitted with all required materials is May 1, 2008.

 Conditions of Award

• Selection announcements are made by mail and telephone by July 30, 2008. Non-winners are notified by email or mail by August 14, 2008.
• This annual award is issued by the St. Paul’s Episcopal Church Scholarship Program Committee as appointed by the Church. Scholarship checks will be made payable to the accredited institution designated by the applicant on the application and mailed by August 30, 2008 to the recipient’s home address.
• Funds are to be applied to cover tuition, fees and/or on-campus room and board only for the full academic year beginning fall 2008 through spring 2009 semesters.
• Recipients are required to supply SPC with all requested information and to notify SPC of any changes of contact information or school enrollment.   
• Any individual convicted of a felony or has been arrested is not eligible to apply for this award.
• Top candidates will be invited to attend a required interview session to further answer questions relating to their application.  Interviews will be held by the SPC or their designees and each final candidate individually.
• Award may be renewed at the discretion of the SPC.

Winner Selection
All applications will be reviewed confidentially by the St. Paul’s Church SPC. Scholarships will be awarded to the eligible applicants who have best demonstrated financial need, involvement in church, community and/or Arts or Music programs, and level of involvement in volunteer experiences and/or community service.

Responsibilities of Recipients
Recipients must be actively enrolled in the fall of 2008 and for the entire academic year without interruption, barring illness, emergency, or military service. Recipients are responsible for notifying the St. Paul’s SPC immediately of term progress, changes in institutions or contact information. It is the recipient’s responsibility to notify the SPC should the award check not arrive on or about 30 days from the issue date. NOTE: All school transfers are subject to accreditation approval.
