September Community Outreach
and Covenant to Care for Children

“I now establish my covenant with you and with your descendants after you.”
Genesis 9:9

Food Pantry at San Lucas y San Pablo, Bridgeport
Not only on the first Sunday of the month, but every day there’s a need for food donations at our companion parish. Please help keep the pantry stocked with nonperishable items, particularly white rice and all kinds of beans, canned fruit and veggies, tuna and canned meat, peanut butter and jelly, hot and cold cereal, coffee, tea and dry milk.

Back-to-School Clothing for Children and Teens
Make a Fashion Statement! Donate last year’s shirts, hoodies, jeans and other clothing including coats and shoes that are clean and still in wearable condition. All items may be left in the Collection Area of the Old Post Road foyer. Many thanks go to Bob Webber for the Herculean task of making weekly deliveries to St. Paul’s companion parish in Bridgeport.

Clothing is needed for a teen girl entering high school (size 1 to 3), an 11 year old girl (size 14) and a 9 year old boy (size 10). Please label items “Covenant to Care Family” and leave items in the office hallway to avoid confusion with other donations.

Brand new uniforms, backpacks and shoes were purchased for two children in Bridgeport where school began on August 25th. The mom, who has multiple disabilities, is very appreciative of the gift. Thank you St. Paul’s for filling this family’s need.

Adopt a Social Worker Program
Ninety-one brand new backpacks and school supplies were provided to St. Paul’s two adopted social workers to be distributed to children in DCF programs.
Thanks go to Linda Shackleton for her expert bargain hunting skills. Additional items may be left in the designated container in the hallway.

To contribute monetary donations or gift cards for any of St. Paul’s Outreach programs, please contact the church office: stpaulsffld"at"juno.com or 203-259-3013. Receipts for tax purposes are available upon request from Accounts Manager, Cathy Comstock.

Fill the Cart on the First Sunday!
On each Youth Sunday (1st Sunday of the month) we will be focusing on filling the St. Luke's Food Pantry. The Pantry provided 29,058 bags of food (enough for 3 meals per bag) last year. During several months last year, the demand was even greater and the pantry ran out of food and had to close. This year, with times as they are, we expect the demand to be even greater so we are asking each family to bring in a few extra food items each Youth Sunday in 2010. Let's fill a shopping cart!  Items of particular need include tuna, peanut butter, rice, cereal and meal "meals" like Chef Boyardee or stews.
In the photo shown here, the shelves were just stocked and this food will last—at a maximum—8 days.
